Hints and Tips

Fashion Hints and Tips

Here you will find a collection of fashion hints and tips, so that we can make the most of our figures. These tips are suitable for all body shapes.

1. Clothing Care Instructions.
Follow the care instructions on the sewn-in label of

the garment. Actual shrinkage results will depend upon care. Washing a

garment in hot water and drying it with hot air will increase shrinkage,

while washing in cold water and air-drying will minimize shrinkage. For

best results, dry clean only.

2. Most important tips of all.

a.) The most important tip is to buy clothes that fit.

Don’t wear a piece that shows bulges or rolls. This is unflattering. It

is also important not to wear clothes that are too big, or baggy, they

can add bulk to your figure.

b.) Don’t wear low-rise anything! Very few people can

pull this off correctly.

c.) Stick with pants that have a slight flare at the

bottom. The pencil thin pant leg emphasizes the butt.

d.) Unless you are the right weight for height, don't wear horizontal stripes. Yes! Even if you

really like the shirt. Only wear vertical stripes, as this elongates the

body, helping to make you seem taller and slimmer.

e.) Dress in a single colour. One colour will help to

hide problem areas by elongating your figure. Choose colours that

compliment your skin tone. If you want to add a bit of colour or

variety, add a different colour jacket, cardigan or overtop.

f.) To help elongate the neck, wear tops with an open

neckline such as v-necks. Low round necklines are good, but a v-neck is

the best choice.

g.) A long length coat can be the ultimate accessory,

they create a good vertical line, and are much better than chunky

sweaters. (Hint* if you are a petite plus size lady, the opposite is

true. If you are already 'height challenged' adding a long coat that

goes past the hips, will make you look even shorter and fuller. It is

better to leave the long coats to the taller plus size women)

h.) Belly baring may be in fashion, but if you have a

larger figure, especially in the mid section, this is most

uncomplimentary.

3. Footwear.

a.) It is better to wear a shoe with at least an inch

heel. It gives extra height to help balance out your figure.

b.) Match your shoe to the main colour you are wearing.

It helps create the illusion of length as it allows the eye to flow all

the way from head to toe. If you wear a different colour shoe, the line

gets cut off where the hemline ends. If you are wearing a dress or

skirt, in particular, this can make your figure look wider and

unbalanced.

c.) Do Not wear hosiery with patterns as this adds

volume. Plain, high denier types of hosiery are slimmer looking for

heavier calves.

4. Lingerie

a.) 75% of all women are wearing the wrong size bra -

YIKES! Having a fuller figured bosom brings along its own set of unique

issues such as bra straps digging into your shoulders and back, saggy

appearance to breasts, and cup spillage (i.e. the dreaded double bubble

effect). All of these issues can be solved by purchasing the correct

size plus size bra and thankfully there are many stores online that

cater specifically to plus size women. Try visiting a department store

or specialty bra shop to get properly sized for a bra. Then, when you

are buying your new bra size in bulk, turn to online bra stores that

have your size more readily available and at better prices.

b.) If you have searched our store, you would have seen

the beautiful plus size lingerie that is available these days. There is

something to suit every body shape. Choose lingerie that will accentuate

your positives and disguise the negatives. For example, If you have a

great bosom, choose a teddy, or babydoll with a skimpy, moulded bra, to

help lift and emphasise them. If you have great legs, but not such a

great bust or middle, choose a short babydoll that drops from the bust

line, also, if possible, choose one with a padded and moulded bra.

c.) Dark colours, particularly black, can be very sexy

in lingerie, but don't restrict yourself to these colours. Sexy pinks,

lavenders, blues and reds, look great as well. Be a bit more adventurous

with your lingerie colours than you would be with your clothes. After

all, it is only you and your lover who will be seeing it.

5. Women's Accessories Can Make or Break the

Perfect, Stylish Outfit.

Simple outfits can be jazzed up with bold women's

accessories, but be careful not to overdo it. Each outfit should have

one bold accessory focus, not. a bold bracelet plus necklace

plus earrings, that would overwhelm you. The great thing about

accessories is that there is no need to go to a specialty, plus sized

clothing store for great accessories. You can shop at just about any

clothing retail store for great jewellery, designer purses, wide width

shoes, and scarves to spice up your wardrobe.

6. Swimwear

a.) Swimwear in can be expensive. A good

quality suit can set you back $60 to $100. Yes, you can still find cheap

swimwear for less than $40, but an inexpensive suit might not fit as

well or be as durable. If you will be wearing a bathing suit more than

three or four times, invest in one that fits well and is made to last.

b.) Not too

long ago, plus size women were limited to less than flattering swimmmers

with matronly attached skirts. This was not a pretty look. These days,

you can choose from sexy bikinis, flattering tankinis, sporty one-piece

suits, boy shorts, and board shorts. Consider what you will be doing in

your bathing suit. If you will be doing lots of swimming, you may want

to choose a one piece with ample support and coverage. If sunbathing is

more your speed, try the cute bikini.

c.) If you detest the fluorescent lights in the

department store dressing rooms and the pesky saleswomen who are not

especially helpful, (and usually stick thin, and do not have any idea

what suits a regular sized lady) you may want to shop for swimwear

from the privacy of your own home. There are numerous online swimwear

retailers (including us....lol) that carry a wide range of styles

and sizes. Most online stores have great customer service, but, please!,

make sure you understand the companies return policy before you

buy.

d.) Every woman has something about her body that she

doesn't especially like, but don't let this stop you from putting on a

swimsuit. Look for a style that plays up your best features and

camouflages the less than perfect. Sarongs are a great accessory, if you

feel a little self conscious. If you are fair skinned, you may also want

to look for additional coverage from the sun.

e.) Give yourself a break when wearing your swimwear.

Find a suit that makes you feel sexy, but comfortable, then go ahead and

strut your stuff with confidence, and everyone else will think that you

look great.

10 Tips to Care for Your Lingerie

  • Always follow the manufacturer's care label on the plus size

    garment.

  • If machine washing, put the garment/s into a soft mesh wash bag.

This bag keeps buttons, clasps etc on other apparel free from rubbing,

and catching, on your delicate lingerie.

  • If ironing a lingerie garment, pay particular attention to the

settings on your iron. One touch of a hot iron onto a heat sensitive

fabric can see your garment frizzle and disappear before

    your eyes.

  • When laundering your plus size bras, clasp the hooks and eyes

together. This eliminates the hooks catching on lace, hems, sheer

fabric, plus size camisole straps etc.

  • Don't put your bras in the dryer as the heat can shrink

the fabric and the bra may twist and stretch.

  • If possible, dry your lingerie flat and away from direct sunlight.

  • Wash light and dark-coloured lingerie separately.
  • Avoid spraying perfume or body sprays on any lingerie, especially

silk. This can leave stains on your delicate fabric.

  • If machine washing your lingerie, always wash on a delicate cycle.

If there is no delicate cycle on your machine, we have to recommend

hand washing them. The normal cycle is just too harsh and can tear the

delicate fabric or stretch it out of shape.
